Environmentally and Ecologically Sustainable Development

Environmental Systems
Today the pressure is growing on marinas to provide the best environmental solution to their operations is growing.
AMT provides advice in the planning for the implementation of “world’s best practice” environmental systems.
Everything from the harvesting of rainwater off rooftops to recycling of wash down spillage through water treatment
systems is available with AMT.

AMT suggests some of the following initiatives depending on the client requirements:

— Compliance with “Green Anchor” (Canada) or similar 5 star rating requirements to provide
a world class ‘Clean Marinas’ outcome.

— Investigate initiating and evolving a ˜Green Star’ rating process for marinas with the
Green Building Codes in the country/state/county of development.

— 20% (or better) of onsite power requirements to be provided by alternative power sources
such as solar, gas co generation, wind, tidal etc.

— Use of bio-phillic and closed loop systems to maximize sustainable outcomes and improve occupant and environmental habitat.

— Use of micro climate analysis to maximize on site design outcomes for occupant comfort improvement and day lighting as well as energy and water reductions.

— Provide multi use benefits for as many items as possible such as:

Use of the harbor underneath existing structures to provide thermal exchange
and thermal mass for any mechanical heating and cooling requirements.

Capture of all rainwater for recycling into toilets or for boat washing.

Capture, filtering and reuse of all storm water/wash runoff from rooftops and other areas for onsite operations where possible.

Building facade to incorporate solar panels where possible as an integrated heating
and power option.

Car parking areas to provide heat sink to assist with natural cross flow ventilation
and heat water.

Capture and reuse of any waste heat where possible.

Co-generation for water heating and electrical power.

Use of dry urinals.

Use of bio diesel captured from on-site restaurants for any onsite diesel driven equipment

Ensure excellent building thermal footprint through the use of suitable double glazing and thermal materials and appropriate thermal design.

Grey water recycling.

Review of surrounding area storm water runoff control procedures that discharge into the bay/estuary/river under the site. This will identify any improvements /benefits that can be achieved.

Re-use as much on site material as possible especially the old timber and metal etc.

Use of alternative power for internal transport options such as golf buggies.

Specification of a low toxic internal and external environment wherever marine
conditions allow.

Review of aquatic life status underneath existing structure and investigate ways
to improve same for benefit of the harbor.

Review functionality of design concepts and operational procedures at design stage
to minimize as many ‘waste paths’ as possible.

Investigation of alternative financial models to support project sustainability and improve financial outcomes such as excess power and water resale.
