About Automated Dry boat storage

Our systems offer the following advantages:

  • Space efficient
  • Greater revenue
  • Safer operations
  • Reduced labour costs
  • Capital cost reduction
  • Longer and Heavier boats stored
  • Reduced maintenance costs and downtime
  • Faster boat throughput times (storage and delivery)

AMT has two different products that can be adapted to your marina depending on your specific operational requirements.

Each application takes into consideration:

  • Cost
  • Required throughput time
  • Staging requirements
  • Site specifics/constraints
  • Waterfront interfaces

AMT will assess and discuss each of these variables with you and suggest/advise the appropriate system to be designed.

AMT and Lödige works closely with you with the objective of delivering a comprehensive and tailored system solution to achieve your strategic goals and objectives and further increase your competitive advantage.

 Our services include:

  • Local marina market research
  • Existing site assessment
  • Concept design
  • Detailed design
  • Procurement and Manufacturing
  • Installation

Elevating Transfer Vehicle (ETV) Systems:

Elevating transfer vehicles (ETV) are boat storage platforms that travel both vertically and horizontally simultaneously. Our ETV system is ideal for lifting boats up to 60ft long and 20 tons/53,000 lbs. Boat throughput can be tailored to meet each client’s requirements. The system can be modified to accommodate larger and heavier boats to suit your specifications.

ETVs lift boats up to 45 meters high. Each boat travels on the lift platform on a boat cradle. The lift platform travels both horizontally at 120m per minute and vertically at 60m per minute.

Lift & Run Systems:

This highly innovative concept was originally designed by Lödige and has now been modified to be used in transporting and storing boats. Boats travel vertically from the water, once they reach the required level they are delivered to the transfer vehicles (TV) that travel horizontally within each level. Each TV then delivers the boat to its racking position.

Our TV system is ideal for boats up to 60ft long and 20 tons/53, 000 lbs. The TV system is more commonly used for marinas with larger boat numbers as throughput is technically limitless. If you have larger and heavier boats needed to be accommodated our system can be modified to suit your specifications.

The splitting of the transport directions into two components can increase system throughput by up to 45%. Lift and Run Systems can lift boats up to 45 meters high; their aisle width equals the boat length + 1 metre. Throughput is about 20-60 boats per hour.

The system is designed with leading edge technology. The programmable logic controllers are connected to the main computer through a radio frequency transmission and drive the various conveyors, lifts and vehicles. Client/server architecture uses a window NT cluster arrangement in a hot standby configuration to ensure uninterrupted operation in case of PC failure.

Construction Benefits

  •  Reduced capital costs due to a more efficient site footprint.
  • More space efficient use of available building area therefore other areas of the site are able to be developed for other uses.
  •  AMT systems can be built to a height of over 45m whereas FLT systems typically can only be built to around 20m.
  •  AMT systems require no overhead clearance (compared to a gantry crane operation).

Operational Benefits

  • Greater revenue as the largest/longest/heaviest boat can stored in any rack (not just the bottom rack).
  • AMT systems have a far greater boat throughput than any other system in the market.

Therefore throughput time can be tailored to client specifications.

  • Reduced maintenance costs and downtime.
  • Reduced labour costs.
  • Reduced operating costs as diesel is more expensive than electricity.
  • AMT systems have the ability to generate and store electricity by utilising the movement in the machine.
  •  Far less internal lighting required as boats are stored without the need for an operator to “see”.
  •  AMT systems have a proven downtime of less than 1%. This discipline has been carried over from the Air Cargo industry where there is no scope for downtime.
  •  AMT systems has back up redundancy systems built in to the overall system should there be a problem that requires maintenance.  There are 2 motors on the drive train system and when one motor fails, the system still uses the other motor and the effect is the speed of the system reduced by half.
  • There is a general perception amongst boat owners that it is safer for their boat to be moved by a computer driven machine rather than be subjected to human error.

Environmental Benefits

  •  No toxic emissions from AMT systems (unlike traditional forklift trucks (FLT)).
  •  No soot from FLT’s on boats in racking.
  • AMT systems are far quieter than traditional FLT systems; therefore operational hours can be extended.
  •  There is potential for oil spills as AMT systems are fully electric. AUTOMATED CAR PARKING:

Through the integration of our boat storage and car parking systems we now enable the operator to store more than just the boat within each racking position. Specifically once each customer’s boat has been placed into the water, they have the ability to have their car parked in the boat rack that their boat usually occupies.

We recognise that waterfront land today is at a premium and storage of goods (e.g. cars) in addition to boats can be more efficient use of the total site area.
